Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) and Potomac Valley Church are proud to partner this year to host the annual IWALK for ACTS event. Proceeds benefit ACTS of Prince William, with the 2018 event raising over $151,000 to support this organization's vital work.

About ACTS

Action in Community Through Service (ACTS) provides relief, fosters hope and promotes self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crisis. Your contributions help support the following programs:

  • Crisis Helpline, the only suicide/crisis prevention/intervention hotline in the Prince William Area, as well as an assurance call service for senior citizens. This is a free, confidential, 24-hour telephone service: 703-368-4141

  • Domestic Violence Services, the Prince William Area's only comprehensive domestic violence prevention and intervention program. We provide shelter; individual counseling; support groups for men, women, and children; a Behavior Intervention Program (BIP); court advocacy; Hispanic services; and community education.

  • Emergency Assistance, utility bill assistance for those with shutoff notices and propane assistance. We spent over $291,000 in FY18 keeping utilities on for families.

  • Emergency Shelter, includes our Beverly Warren Shelter and the Domestic Violence safe house.

  • Housing Program, which includes rapid re-housing, transitional housing, and our Women’s Empowerment Center.

  • Hunger Prevention Center, which moves nearly 60,000 lbs of food to feed over 600 families every month!

  • Sexual Assault Services, the only sexual assault crisis center serving the Prince William Area, which empowers survivors of sexual assault to heal and move forward in their lives. We provide Crisis Intervention Counseling (ages 12+); support groups, 24-hour hotline; hospital/court accompaniment and advocacy; Hispanic services; and community education.

  • Suicide Services, our Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team, Surviving After Suicide group for family members, and Renewed Hope group for those who have attempted suicide.

  • Thrift Store, the only one in our area where 100% of the proceeds stay in the county! All proceeds go directly into supporting our programs and services.

  • Prince William Food Rescue, leveraging our Food Rescue Hero app, volunteers are able to help move perishable items that would be thrown away by Donor Partners (grocery stores, restaurants, farmers, caterers, etc.) to non-profit Distribution Partners (food pantries, PTOs, foundations, etc.) for immediate distribution to feed food insecure individuals and families. This program aims to simultaneously reduce food waste, reduce hunger, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
